SMX-1 Synchronous 2-port TDM Mux (Splitter)

The SMX-1 is a 2-port, full duplex, character-interleaved, synchronous Time Division Multiplexer (TDM). The SMX is designed to enable two synchronous computers or terminal ports to utilize a single synchronous modem link or multiplexer port. The sub-channel data rates are one-half the composite or modem rate.

The two sub-channels operate at matched speeds. All standard codes are supported. Configuration parameters are strap selectable. Indicators for both power and sync are provided.

PERFORMANCE:

Data rate control of the SMX-1 is set by the associated transmission link equipment, i.e. modem or digital service unit. The SMX-1's robust synchronization is achieved by reducing the throughput of one port by only 0.006 percent. Therefore, the SMX-1 requires only one bit out of every 1024 transmitted to maintain synchronization. This small reduction is virtually invisible to almost all applications and terminals.--

The SMX-1 is able to achieve and maintain its own synchronization independent of the technique or method used by the transmission link.
